She is a woman of substance, a leader of vision, and a champion of justice. She is Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, and she was honored with the 2023 EAA Lifetime Achievement Award for her services to the community at the Effects Excellence Achievers Awards (EAA) in Houston, Texas, on October 28, 2023.
The EAA, organized by Effects Media & Event LLC, is a prestigious award that recognizes and celebrates the achievements of unsung and known heroes and heroines all over the world, who have excelled in their chosen fields, positively impacted people’s lives through their works, and contributed to the economic and social growth of the society.
Congresswoman Lee, who represents Texas’s 18th congressional district since 1995, is one of the most influential and respected members of the U.S. Congress. She is a member of the Democratic Party and a leader in the Congressional Black Caucus. She is also a vocal advocate for civil rights, human rights, and social justice issues.
She has been instrumental in advancing legislation and policies that benefit the people of Houston, Texas, and the nation. She has fought for health care reform, education funding, environmental protection, immigration reform, criminal justice reform, and economic empowerment. She has also been a strong supporter of the African American, Nigerian American, and other ethnic groups, and has fostered bilateral relations and cooperation with many countries.
She has received numerous awards and honors for her outstanding work and leadership, including the NAACP’s Spingarn Medal, the Martin Luther King Jr. Award, the Thurgood Marshall Award, the Rosa Parks Award, and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix Award.
She is also running to become the Mayor of Houston, with a vision to make the city more inclusive, prosperous, and resilient.
At the EAA 2023, Congresswoman Lee was presented with a plaque and a certificate by the organizers of the event, Effects Media & Event LLC, who also received a congressional Certificate of Excellence from her for their positive impact in the Houston community.
She expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the honor, and dedicated it to the people of Houston, who have inspired and supported her throughout her career. She also congratulated the other honorees, who were selected from different fields and backgrounds, and praised them for their excellence, innovation, and inspiration.
She also urged the audience to continue to pursue their dreams and goals, and to create value and joy for themselves and others. She said, “We are all achievers, and we all have the power to make a difference in the world. Let us use our talents and gifts to serve humanity and to uplift our society.
