It was a David vs Goliath encounter, as Aston Villa faced off against the mighty Manchester City, the reigning champions of England and Europe. But unlike the biblical story, there was no sling or stone involved, only a stunning strike from Leon Bailey that deflected off Ruben Dias and into the net. That was enough to give Villa a shock 1-0 victory over City, and hand Unai Emery a memorable win in his first home game as Villa boss.
Unai Emery at post-match interview said. “Playing against Man City, who won the title, Champions League too. It’s a difficult challenge to take control of the game for 90 minutes but we did it,”
He added, “We created lots of chances and we controlled the attack in the high press. We were believing.
“Today was fantastic but we must keep a balance. The dressing room is happy, but the next challenge is on Saturday. Tomorrow we are focusing again on Saturday.”
