Biden Sends Delegation to Madagascar to Celebrate Rajoelina’s Second Term

President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has announced the members of the Presidential Delegation that will attend the Inauguration of His Excellency Andry Rajoelina, the President of the Republic of Madagascar, on December 19, 2023, in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The delegation will be led by the Honorable Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, who has extensive experience in African affairs and diplomacy. She will be joined by the Honorable Michael Pelletier, the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar, and the Honorable Dana Banks, the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Africa, National Security Council, The White House.

President Biden’s congratulations and best wishes to President Rajoelina and the people of Madagascar on the occasion of their democratic transition and the start of the second term of the Rajoelina administration. Also reaffirm the strong and enduring partnership between the United States and Madagascar, which is based on shared values and interests in promoting peace, security, democracy, human rights, and sustainable development.

The delegation will also engage with various stakeholders from the government, civil society, private sector, and international community to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Madagascar, especially in the areas of public health, environmental conservation, economic growth, and regional stability, and highlight the United States’ commitment to supporting Madagascar’s efforts to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, combat climate change, protect its unique biodiversity, and foster inclusive and resilient development.

The delegation will express the United States’ appreciation for Madagascar’s contributions to regional and global peace and security, especially in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and underscore the United States’ readiness to work with Madagascar and other partners to advance the common goals and values of the international community.
