Peter Obi: How Nigeria’s Populist Hero Stands Up to Power

Date:

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, has a reputation for being frugal, honest, and fearless. He is also a target of intimidation and threats from powerful forces who want to silence him.

Obi, who served as the governor of Anambra State for eight years, revealed that he has been offered mind-blowing deals to abandon his principles and join the corrupt establishment. He refused to name the individuals or groups behind the offers, but said they are also plotting to harm him for rejecting their advances.

He made these shocking revelations while answering questions from the host and audience of X Space, a popular online show hosted by Parallel Facts, a media platform that promotes independent journalism and civic engagement.

Obi said he is not afraid of death and will always remain faithful to his vision of a better Nigeria. He said he is ready to face any consequences for his actions, even if it means losing his life.

“I can tell you the offers that I get today are mind-blowing. On the other hand, for refusing the offer, what they want to do to me is also very frightening. But I am ready to go through anything. As I keep telling people, when they say, ‘Peter, you’re putting your life in danger’, if I die at sixty something, I did not die a young person. Some people died in their twenties, thirties and forties. And I have kids who are now graduates and doing their own things.

“If I go today, it’s fair enough as long as I don’t deviate from these things that I said from the day I decided to get in government.

“I will always be on the right path,” he said.
