JAMB hikes up 2024 UTME registration fees amid inflation woes

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a significant increase in the registration fees for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024. The examination body disclosed this on its X handle on Monday, as it commenced the registration process for the 2024 UTME/Direct Entry (DE).

According to JAMB, the registration fee for UTME candidates who wish to take the mock examination is now N7,700, while those who opt out of the mock examination will pay N6,200. Foreign candidates will pay $30 for the application documents. This represents a 35% and 9% increase respectively from the previous fees of N5,700 and N6,700 for the UTME form with and without the mock examination.

JAMB attributed the hike in the registration fees to the rising inflation rate in the country, which has affected the cost of conducting the examination. The inflation rate in Nigeria hit a four-year high of 18.17% in March 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. JAMB also said that the increase was necessary to maintain the quality and standard of the examination, as well as to ensure that candidates have access to the best facilities and services.

JAMB urged all prospective 2024 UTME/DE candidates to create their profiles for registration as soon as possible, as the sale of application documents will end on Monday, January 15, 2024. The deadline for the 2024 DE application is Thursday, March 28, 2024.

The mock examination date for the 2024 UTME is scheduled for 7th March 2024, while the printing of the UTME examination slips will begin on 10th April 2024. The 2024 UTME examination will take place from April 19 to April 29, 2024.

JAMB advised candidates to visit its official website or any accredited CBT centre for more information on the registration process and requirements. JAMB also warned candidates to avoid any form of malpractice or fraud during the registration and examination, as it will not hesitate to sanction any offender.
