Halle Bailey welcomes baby boy Halo after keeping pregnancy under wraps
Halle Bailey has surprised and thrilled her fans by revealing that she has given birth to a baby boy named Halo.
The 23-year-old star of The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple musical shared a sweet photo on Instagram on Saturday night (6 January), showing her holding her son’s tiny hand, with a bracelet that read “Halo” on his wrist.
She captioned the post: “The greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me. Halo, you are my everything.”
The announcement came after months of speculation that Halle was expecting her first child with her boyfriend, rapper and YouTube star DDG.
The couple, who confirmed their relationship in June 2022, had kept their pregnancy a secret from the public, with Halle wearing loose-fitting clothes or outfits that drew attention away from her midsection at various events and red carpets.
In August 2022, Halle’s sister and musical partner Chloe Bailey shut down the rumors, telling fans to “keep Halle’s name out of your mouth”.
However, some fans were convinced that they spotted a baby bump in photos of Halle at a party during New York Fashion Week in September 2022 and again at the MTV Video Music Awards later that month.
In October 2022, a UK magazine mistakenly reported that Halle was married and pregnant, using quotes from another singer who had recently become a mother.
Halle did not address the false report, but continued to focus on her work, filming The Little Mermaid in Italy and London, and recording songs for The Color Purple musical, in which she plays the lead role of Celie.
Halle also released a solo single called Angel in August 2022, which many fans interpreted as a tribute to her unborn child.
The song features the lyrics: “Heaven wears your halo / They know you’re an angel.”
Halle and her sister Chloe, who perform as Chloe x Halle, rose to fame after posting covers of popular songs on YouTube, including Beyoncé’s Halo, which they sang when they were 11 and 9 years old, respectively.
Beyoncé later signed them to her record label, Parkwood Entertainment, and mentored them throughout their career.
The sisters have released two albums, The Kids Are Alright and Ungodly Hour, and have earned four Grammy nominations.
They also starred in the TV series Grown-ish, playing twin sisters Jazz and Sky Forster.
Halle’s fans and friends flooded her Instagram post with congratulatory messages and compliments, expressing their happiness and excitement for her new chapter as a mother.
Some of the celebrities who commented on her post included Zendaya, Yara Shahidi, Normani, Marsai Martin, Keke Palmer, and Lizzo.
Halle’s sister Chloe also shared a heartfelt message, writing: “I love you so much Halo. Auntie Coco loves you more than words can say. You are so perfect and beautiful. Congratulations to my sister and DDG. You two created a miracle.”
Halle has not revealed any more details about her son’s birth, such as his date of birth, weight, or height.
She has also not shared any photos of his face, keeping his privacy intact.
