Adan Canto: Beloved actor of ‘X-Men’ and ‘Designated Survivor’, passes away at 42

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Adan Canto, a talented and versatile actor who starred in popular shows and movies such as ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, ‘Designated Survivor’, and ‘Bruised’. Canto died on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the age of 42, after a courageous fight against appendiceal cancer, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects the appendix.

Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, and began his career as a musician and singer before transitioning to acting. He made his debut on American television in 2013, playing the role of Paul Torres on the Fox drama series ‘The Following’. He later landed the role of Sunspot, a mutant who can absorb and manipulate solar energy, in the 2014 blockbuster ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

Canto went on to showcase his range and charisma in various projects, such as the ABC comedy series ‘Mixology’, the Netflix drama series ‘Narcos’, and the Amazon pilot ‘Hysteria’. He also co-starred with Kiefer Sutherland in the ABC/Netflix political thriller ‘Designated Survivor’, playing Aaron Shore, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff and later Chief of Staff.

Canto’s most recent work included the 2020 movie ‘Bruised’, directed by and starring Halle Berry, and the Fox crime drama ‘The Cleaning Lady’, in which he played a gangster named Arman Morales. He also wrote and directed two short films, ‘Before Tomorrow’ and ‘The Shot’, which earned him several awards and accolades.

Canto was married to Stephanie Ann Canto, with whom he had two children. He was also a devout Christian and often shared his faith and gratitude on social media. His wife posted a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram, along with a photo of the couple and a Bible verse. She wrote: “Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon.

Many of Canto’s co-stars and friends also expressed their grief and admiration for him on social media. Halle Berry wrote: “I don’t have the words just yet… but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart.” Kiefer Sutherland said: “As an actor his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better, was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed. I am also heartbroken for his wife, Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace.

Canto was widely regarded as a rising star and a trailblazer for Mexican actors in Hollywood. He was known for his passion, dedication, and generosity, both on and off screen. Adan Canto will be remembered as a wonderful actor and a dear friend by his fans and colleagues. He leaves behind a legacy of inspiring and entertaining performances that will live on for generations to come.
