Adan Canto, the versatile actor who brought charisma and depth to his roles in hit shows like Designated Survivor and blockbuster movies like X-Men: Days of Future Past, has passed away at the young age of 42.
The Mexican star had been battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer that originated in his appendix, his publicist confirmed.
Canto was best known for his portrayal of Aaron Shore, the loyal and smart national security adviser in Designated Survivor, where he shared the screen with Kiefer Sutherland, who played the US president. Sutherland expressed his grief and admiration for Canto, calling him "such a wonderful spirit" and "a joy to work with".
Canto also made his mark in the superhero genre, playing the fiery mutant Sunspot in the 2014 X-Men film, where he impressed co-star Halle Berry with his performance. Berry later gave him a role in her directorial debut, Bruised, a drama about a mixed martial arts fighter.
