Ake’s late heroics send City through at Spurs’ expense

Manchester City snatched a dramatic 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fourth round, thanks to a last-gasp goal from Nathan Ake at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Dutch defender pounced on a loose ball in the box after Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario failed to deal with a Kevin de Bruyne corner, and smashed it into the net with two minutes remaining.

It was a cruel end for the hosts, who had defended bravely against a dominant City side that had wasted numerous chances to break the deadlock.

City had an early goal disallowed for offside, when Oscar Bobb fired in from a tight angle, and Vicario made several fine saves to deny Bernardo Silva and de Bruyne.

The Belgian midfielder also missed a glorious chance when he blazed over from close range, after Phil Foden had robbed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of the ball.

Spurs offered little in attack, and their best chance fell to Harry Kane, who headed wide from a Son Heung-min cross.
