MTN Group invests in Benin’s digital future

MTN Group, a leading provider of digital solutions for Africa, has announced a US$215 million investment plan for Benin over the next three years. The plan includes building a state-of-the-art office for its subsidiary MTN Benin, which serves some eight million subscribers in the country.

The announcement was made during a visit by MTN Group’s top executives to Cotonou, where they met with His Excellency President Patrice Talon. The delegation included MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, MTN Benin Chairman Amadou Raimi, Senior Vice President for Markets Ebenezer Asante, MTN Benin CEO Uche Ofodile and MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo.

Mupita expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and his vision for MTN’s role in Africa. “MTN works to be a force for good in our markets, giving Africans hope, dignity and opportunity,” he said. “We have trialled 5G services in Benin and see opportunities to progress this.”

He also emphasized MTN’s commitment to the development and upskilling of the Beninese youth and its desire to partner with the government and other stakeholders in this regard.

President Talon thanked the MTN delegation for their commitment and expressed his optimism for future collaboration as MTN Benin celebrates its 25th anniversary of operations.
