It’s finally happening-Meet the Nigerian woman who is driving solo from London to Lagos in a car

 

Pelumi Nubi is not your average traveler. She is a Nigerian woman who has decided to embark on a solo road trip from London, the United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria, in a car. She is documenting her journey on social media.

Pelumi, who is a travel content creator, said she wanted to show the world that “impossible” is just a word, especially for a solo black female traveler. She also said she wanted to explore the beauty and diversity of the African continent, push her limits, and inspire others to chase their dreams.

Her trip, which she calls “London to Lagos by Road”, started on January 30, 2024, and is expected to last for two months. She is driving a Peugeot 107 that has been customized for her adventure, with provisions for sleeping and dining.

Her route will take her through 18 countries, including France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and finally Nigeria.

She said she has been planning and saving for this trip for a year, and that she has been chatting with people who have done similar adventures before. She said she is not aware of any black woman who has made this journey before, but that this is not about breaking records, but about breaking barriers.

Pelumi said she is excited and nervous about her trip, and that she is prepared to face the challenges and surprises along the way. She said she hopes to learn more about herself, the cultures, the people, and the places she will encounter.

Pelumi said she is proud to be a Nigerian and to represent her country in this unique way. She said she is looking forward to reaching Lagos, where she will be welcomed by her family and friends. She said she hopes her trip will inspire more Nigerians and Africans to explore the world and their potential.
