FG Acts on Food Crisis, Releases 102,000 Metric Tonnes of Rice and Maize

Date:

The federal government has responded to the food crisis and the inflationary trend in the country by ordering the release of 102,000 metric tonnes of rice and maize to Nigerians.

The government also revealed that it may resort to importing more food items to make up for any shortfalls that may arise in the supply chain.

This was disclosed by Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, while speaking to State House reporters after the meeting of the Presidential Committee on Food Emergency, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday. He said the President has given a clear directive that “food will be made available, whatever it takes.”

The decision was reached after the committee deliberated on the situation, following the protests by Nigerians over the soaring prices of food and other economic woes.
