Bovi slams Peseiro for Super Eagles’ AFCON heartbreak

Date:

Nigeria’s hopes of lifting their fourth AFCON title were dashed by a resilient Cote d’Ivoire side, who clinched a 2-1 victory in a thrilling final on Sunday. The hosts celebrated their third continental glory in front of a jubilant crowd, while the Super Eagles were left to rue their missed chances.

Popular comedian Bovi was among the millions of Nigerians who expressed their frustration and disappointment at the outcome of the match. He took to his X handle to blast Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for his defensive approach, which he said was contrary to Nigeria’s footballing identity.

Bovi wrote: “Blame the coach. We are a footballing nation of flare. Fluidity, through passes, dribbles, attack. Not all out defence. Even if we’d won, I would still be pissed. The style was evidently alien to the players.”

He added that Peseiro had wasted the talents of Nigeria’s star players, who were capable of producing more exciting and effective football. He also questioned Peseiro’s substitutions and game management, saying that he had failed to inspire the team when they needed him most.

Bovi’s post sparked a heated debate among his followers, with some agreeing with his criticism of Peseiro, and others defending the coach and praising the team for their efforts. Some also suggested that Bovi should stick to comedy and leave football analysis to the experts.
