Ondo PDP mourns as chairman passes away

Date:

Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into mourning following the death of its chairman, Mr Fatai Adams. He reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed, but sources close to him said he had been battling with some health challenges for a while. He was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost.

The party’s state publicity secretary, Mr Kennedy Peretei, who confirmed the sad news, said the party would soon issue a formal statement on the incident. He described the late chairman as a loyal and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the success of the party in the state.

Adams was elected as the state chairman of the PDP in August 2020, after the resignation of his predecessor, Mr Clement Faboyede. He had led the party to the 2020 governorship election, which was won by the incumbent governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Late chairman was also suspended by the State Working Committee of the PDP last month over allegations of anti-party activities. He was accused of working against the interest of the party and its candidates in the 2023 general elections.

The suspension, however, sparked a crisis within the party, as some members loyal to him rejected the decision and accused the committee of acting on the orders of some external forces. The matter was still unresolved before his demise.

The death of the chairman has created a vacuum in the leadership of the party in the state, as well as a huge loss to the PDP family. The party has expressed its condolences to his immediate family, friends and associates, and prayed for the repose of his soul.
