It was an emotional morning for Ben Shephard and his fans as he presented his final episode of Good Morning Britain today. The popular TV host, who has been a regular fixture on the show for 10 years, is leaving to join This Morning as one of the new co-hosts alongside Cat Deeley.
Ben, 49, was showered with tributes and well-wishes from his colleagues and friends, including Kate Garraway, Dr. Hilary, Laura Tobin, and some West Ham legends. He also received a video message from Susanna Reid, who reminisced about their first meeting a decade ago and praised him as the “best in the business”.
Ben struggled to hold back his tears as he thanked everyone for their support and kindness over the years. He said: “It’s been an amazing 10 years. I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve had so much fun, I’ve learned so much, I’ve made some incredible friends. I’m going to miss you all terribly.”
He added: “But I’m also really excited about the new challenge ahead. I can’t wait to start on This Morning with Cat and bring some joy and laughter to the mornings. I hope you’ll all tune in and join me there.”
Ben’s departure from Good Morning Britain comes after months of speculation over who would be permanently taking over on the This Morning sofa, following the exit of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. Ben and Cat were recently announced as the new hosts, beating out other contenders such as Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson.
Ben’s last day on Good Morning Britain was full of surprises and nostalgia, as he looked back at some of his best moments on the show, from playing football with Dr. Hilary to visiting Haiti after the earthquake. He also received a cake, a bouquet of flowers, and a personalised West Ham shirt from his co-stars.
Ben’s fans took to social media to express their sadness and gratitude, as well as their excitement for his new role. Many praised him for his professionalism, warmth, and humour, and wished him all the best for the future.
Ben will make his debut on This Morning on Monday, February 26, 2024, alongside Cat Deeley. He will also continue to host Tipping Point and Ninja Warrior UK on ITV. Good Morning Britain will announce Ben’s replacement in the coming weeks.
