Hunter Schafer, the breakout star of HBO’s hit series Euphoria, was among the 50 protesters who were arrested on Tuesday night after storming the NBC headquarters in New York.
The group of Jewish anti-Zionist activists, who call themselves Jewish Voice for Peace, were there to disrupt President Joe Biden’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers and to urge him to end his support for Israel’s military aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.
Schafer, who plays the transgender teen Jules Vaughn on Euphoria, wore a black t-shirt with the slogan “Cease-fire Now” and held a banner that read “Jews to Biden – stop arming genocide”. She also chanted along with the other demonstrators:
“No more weapons, no more war, cease-fire is what we’re fighting for” and “Joe Biden, we know you are here. You are not welcome in our city”.
The protest was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, a Jewish-led organization that advocates for Palestinian rights and opposes Zionism.
According to their website, they are “the largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world” and they “fight for the liberation of all people”. They also criticized Biden’s foreign policy and called for his administration to reconsider its stance and push for a cease-fire.
The NYPD and the Secret Service arrived at the scene and arrested Schafer and the other protesters, who were later released. A spokesperson for the organization told Vulture that they “commend her commitment to Palestinian freedom and to a future of justice for everyone”.
