He is the leader of Africa’s most populous nation, and he has sworn to wage a relentless war against smuggling and corruption.
President Bola Tinubu made this bold declaration at the commissioning of the Lagos Red Line Train on Thursday, a landmark project that showcases his vision for the country.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to the economic policies of his government, which he said were aimed at improving the lives of the masses. He revealed that his administration had uncovered 32 routes through which food items were being smuggled out of Nigeria, depriving the nation of its resources. Tinubu said, “I know smugglers will resist, corruption will fight back. But we will not give up. We will destroy them. Corruption will be history, and we will save the money for you to educate our children, to provide healthcare for our people, to build a modern transportation system that serves the majority, not the minority smugglers.
“We said we could do it, and you trusted us. We said your lives would be better, and you believed us. I can hear some voices of dissent right now, but I chose this job, and I won’t complain. It’s all part of democracy.
“But this revolution that has begun, this reform that is in progress, we are not turning back. The engineering, the construction, the confirmation of our loyalty to our country. One thing I am sure of is that there is a glorious light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
