Lagos State was thrown into mourning on Thursday night, March 7, 2024, when a ghastly motor accident claimed the life of Akintoye Nathaniel Benson, a loyal aide to the chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
Benson, who was the chairman of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN) Zone H, was driving on the Third Mainland Bridge around 10 pm when his vehicle collided with another car and somersaulted several times. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A viral video on social media showed the mangled remains of Benson’s car, which was a white Toyota Camry, as well as the other vehicle involved in the crash, which was a black Honda Accord. The occupants of the Honda were also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Benson’s death came as a shock to many who knew him as a vibrant and hardworking man who had a close relationship with MC Oluomo. He was described as a loyal and trustworthy friend who always supported the NURTW boss in his activities and projects.
