Zenith Bank Plc has announced the historic appointment of Adaora Umeoji as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2024. The announcement was made through a formal notice to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), endorsed by the company secretary, Michael Osilama Otu.
Umeoji’s ascension to the helm marks a groundbreaking moment as she becomes the first woman to assume this prestigious role within the bank. She succeeds Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose tenure concludes on May 31, 2024.
With a tenure at Zenith Bank that spans over three decades, Umeoji has served as the Deputy Managing Director since October 28, 2016. Her extensive experience in the banking sector is complemented by an impressive academic portfolio. She is a distinguished alumnus of Harvard Business School, having completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP), and holds a Certificate in the Global Banking Program from Columbia Business School.
Umeoji’s educational achievements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and a First-Class Honors in Law from Baze University, Abuja. Furthering her academic pursuits, she earned a Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, an MBA from the University of Calabar, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Apollos University, USA.
