The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has expressed grave concern over his deteriorating health condition while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
They assert that he is in dire need of immediate medical attention from a cardiologist.
They have appealed to President Bola Tinubu, imploring him to intervene and prevent a tragic outcome while Kanu remains in DSS custody.
Kanu has been detained since 2021, following his extradition from Kenya. Despite his worsening health, his plea for bail was denied by Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday.
Emmanuel, Kanu’s younger brother, issued a statement on Saturday, revealing that he had been informed of his brother’s critical condition. He emphasized that Kanu requires urgent medical intervention to prevent a severe health crisis.
The statement read in part, “We received news this morning that his condition has critically worsened. He has been denied access to his personal doctors, and his need for a cardiologist is urgent. His life should not be lost while in DSS custody.”
