Naby Keita, the former Liverpool midfielder, has been benched for the rest of the 2023-24 season by Werder Bremen. The club didn’t mince words—they’ve slapped him with a “substantial” fine as well.
Keita won’t be gracing the training sessions or the first-team dressing room. Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Clemens Fritz, minced no words: “As a club, we won’t tolerate Naby’s behavior. He let his team down during a crucial time, when our form was wobbly and squad availability was tight. His priorities veered away from the team, and that’s a no-go. We need unity now, especially with the remaining games at stake. Hence, this suspension.”
Keita’s Detour: The drama unfolded when Keita discovered he wouldn’t be in the starting XI against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Instead of hopping on the team bus, he took a detour—straight home.
