Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has defended President Bola Tinubu, stating that he should not be held responsible for Nigeria’s current economic difficulties.
Kalu made this statement on Sunday, during a celebration of his 53rd birthday at his home in Abia State, where he hosted orphans, widows, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
Responding to reporters’ questions, the Deputy Speaker explained that Tinubu is working tirelessly to rectify the errors of previous administrations, which have led to the current economic challenges. “The difficulties we are experiencing were not instigated by this man. It’s a cumulative effect of how previous administrations mishandled certain issues.
“We cannot persist in delusion, believing that everything is fine. Tinubu is striving to rectify the situation so that we can enjoy a sustainable livelihood. Let’s continue to support and encourage him,” Kalu stated.
He also envisioned a brighter future for the country despite the current turmoil, urging Nigerians to keep faith in the current leadership rather than lose hope.
The Deputy Speaker argued that accumulating wealth or living luxuriously while others suffer poverty is inhumane.
He said, “What is the point of hoarding goods in warehouses when people are starving? What is the purpose of storing items until election time?
“I am not concerned about political affiliations or religious beliefs. I am interested in the essence of humanity, which is: if you are in a position of advantage, extend a helping hand to those who are not.
“Let’s promote love, peace, and unity, demonstrating to others that we care, regardless of their background or political leanings.”
