Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gabonese striker for Olympique de Marseille, has been named the Ligue 1 African Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
This prestigious award, known as the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, is given annually to the best African player in Ligue 1. It honors the memory of former Olympique Lyonnais and RC Lens midfielder Marc-Vivien Foé, who tragically passed away during a game between Cameroon and Colombia in the Confederations Cup.
Aubameyang’s outstanding performance, including 14 goals in Ligue 1 and guiding his club to the Europa League semi-finals, earned him this well-deserved recognition. Notably, he becomes only the third Marseille player to win this accolade, following André Ayew and Chancel Mbemba.
Tonight, Aubameyang is also in contention for the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Season, competing against Kylian Mbappé for the honor.
