Lagos Governor Clears Pension Backlog for LWC Staff and Retirees

Date:

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has settled all outstanding pension contributions for the recently separated employees of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC).

This was announced in a statement issued by the LWC’s Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, over the weekend in Lagos.

Engr. Mukhtaar clarified that the payments, which amounted to millions of naira, covered the period from August 2011 to December 2016. These funds were remitted to the Pension Fund Administrator Accounts (PFAs) of all staff, both active and those who have left the service.

In addition, the LWC chief announced that Governor Sanwo-Olu has also settled the accrued rights (bond) of the corporation’s retirees up to December 2022. This represents the past service of staff dating back to May 2007, before the introduction of the contributory pension scheme.

With these developments, the Managing Director stressed that the corporation is now fully compliant with the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), the state’s regulatory body.

Engr. Mukhtaar expressed the corporation’s deep gratitude for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering dedication, integrity, and commitment to justice and fairness. He thanked the governor for his ongoing advocacy and efforts on behalf of the staff and retirees of the Lagos Water Corporation.
