Renowned record producer and music executive, Olumide Ogunade, widely known as ID Cabasa, has shared his experience of Olamide’s departure from his record label, Coded Tunes.
During his appearance on the ‘Afrobeats Podcast,’ Cabasa revealed that he was moved to tears when Olamide decided to leave.
He mentioned that he attempted to convince Olamide to stay but ultimately gave him his blessings when Olamide was determined to leave. He said, “I first met Olamide when he was just 13 years old. He visited my studio with a friend who wanted him to feature on a song. His friend lacked musical talent. Olamide, on the other hand, was quiet and modest. I provided him with a beat, and he delivered 16 bars that completely transformed everything. Olamide became like a son to me.
“When he was on the verge of leaving my record label, we had a sit-down discussion about it. It was a painful moment for me. It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to advance; it was the pain of seeing someone you care about depart. I was brought to tears.
“I told him, ‘Olamide, you should’ve waited a bit!’ He responded, ‘Bros, there are things I want to do, and I’m certain that we might not be able to do some of them under your code.’ We parted ways without any conflict. I gave him my complete blessings.”
In 2012, Olamide left Coded Tunes and established his own record label, YBNL Nation.
