Oleksandr Usyk Beats Tyson Fury to Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Date:

In a thrilling showdown, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk secured a razor-thin split decision victory over British fighter Tyson Fury. With this win, Usyk achieved an unprecedented feat: becoming the first undisputed heavyweight boxing champion in 24 years. The match took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the Kingdom Arena on May 19, 2024.

Usyk, already holding the WBA, IBF, and IBO belts, added Fury’s WBC title to his collection. The fight was a back-and-forth battle between two previously unbeaten heavyweight champions. While Fury dominated the middle rounds, Usyk rallied in the final rounds, delivering a ninth-round knockdown that ultimately secured his victory. The judges’ scores were close: two favored Usyk (115-112 and 114-113), while the third gave it to Fury (114-113).

Usyk’s achievement marks a significant moment in boxing history, and fans eagerly await a potential rematch between these formidable fighters in October.
