The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has issued a directive to Israel to “immediately cease” its military campaign in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza.
This development, reported by CNN, intensifies the global pressure on Israel regarding its conflict with Hamas.
The order was issued by the United Nations’ highest court in response to a lawsuit filed by South Africa. South Africa had leveled accusations against Israel, claiming that its use of forced evacuation orders in Rafah was more detrimental than protective to civilian life.
Israel, which has dismissed these allegations, has not yet formally responded to the ICJ’s decision.
Although ICJ’s rulings are final and legally binding, the court lacks a mechanism to enforce them.
