In the vibrant world of Nollywood, actress Toyin Abraham found herself in the midst of a political whirlwind.
Following a heated exchange on social media, she has decided to retreat from the public eye regarding her political affiliations. This decision, she says, is a lesson learned from the tumultuous events of a Tuesday that will forever be etched in her memory.
The saga unfolded when a social media user, known as Otunba (@ManLikeIcey), posed a question that would set the stage for a revealing dialogue. He asked Abraham to share the plans that President Bola Tinubu had confided in her during the 2023 general election campaign.
Abraham, in a series of candid replies, lifted the veil on the promises made to her by Tinubu’s camp. She was assured of “good governance and happiness for everyone,” a promise she believed in and shared with her followers.
However, her honesty came with a warning. Abraham expressed her reluctance to become the scapegoat of public scrutiny should these promises not come to fruition. She recalled her past experiences of being bullied for her political choices and pleaded for understanding, “Why would they be cursing and trolling me every time?”
Otunba, undeterred, pressed on with his questioning, “Do you believe he has failed at the moment in governance or not?” To this, Abraham responded with a firm resolve, “I have faced my life and career because I am not a politician and I’m not in government. I have learnt my lesson never ever to be open with my choice again.”
In 2023, Abraham had shared pictures of her meeting with the then-presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Tinubu, and the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
She had written, “For the first time, I met the incoming president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he shared some of his ideas, visions, and strategies to solve the challenges before us as a nation. Listening to him renewed my hope and reaffirmed why he is my choice.”
