The late singer Mohbad’s autopsy was performed at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), shedding light on the potential cause of his death.
As reported by TheCable Lifestyle, the exact cause of death remains unclear, but a drug reaction is a possible factor, given the lack of significant findings from the post-mortem and toxicology tests.
The autopsy involved collecting samples from various parts of the late singer’s body, including the gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung, for toxicological analysis.
The autopsy revealed an injury on Mohbad’s right forearm and signs of moderate to severe decomposition of his exhumed body. However, no significant gross findings could be directly linked to his death.
The toxicology report indicated the presence of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine, but its concentration was not within a fatal or lethal range.
Anti-histamines are commonly used to treat allergy symptoms and various other conditions such as stomach issues, colds, and anxiety.
The report noted that the body had not undergone an autopsy or embalming before being buried on the second day. Following an exhumation order, the body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, eight days after the burial.
The autopsy showed moderate to severe decomposition of organs. Besides the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross findings could be linked to the cause of death. Consequently, samples were taken for toxicology to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substance abuse, overdose, or common household poisoning.
The toxicology report confirmed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine, but its concentration was not within a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.
To determine a fatal anaphylactic shock, a blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible. However, this was made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. Therefore, the cause of death remains undetermined. However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) is considered due to the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.
Earlier, a toxicology test on the late music star revealed that the cause of death could not be determined. Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, stated that the pathologist’s submission at the Coroner Inquest indicated that the body of the singer had already decomposed at the time of the test.
According to Shittu, the pathologist suggested that the cause of death could be a reaction to certain drugs administered to him before his death. However, it remains unclear whether these drugs directly led to his death.
On March 20, Richard Somiari, the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, announced that the toxicology result of Mohbad would be available in the next three to four weeks. He assured the public of adequate security and monitoring of samples for the autopsy, stating that they have a secure storage place for items and a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad.
