Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup are hanging by a thread, following a 1-1 stalemate with South Africa on Friday night. This marks their third draw in a row in the series.

The Super Eagles were in dire need of a victory to ascend to the top of Group C, but they conceded the opening goal of the match. Themba Zwane, an attacker for Bafana Bafana, was given the freedom to weave into the box and score past Stanley Nwabali.

The men under the leadership of Finidi George managed to equalize early in the second half, courtesy of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s maiden goal for Nigeria.

The outcome of the match leaves the Eagles in the fifth position with three points, while South Africa sits a notch above in fourth place with four points.
