Darwin Nunez at the Center of Post-Match Altercation with Colombia Fans

Date:

Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Copa America semi-final, Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez found himself at the heart of a physical altercation with Colombia fans. The match, held at Bank of America Stadium, saw Jefferson Lerma score the decisive goal in the first half, securing Colombia’s place in the final.

Tensions boiled over immediately after the final whistle blown by Mexican referee Cesar Ramos. Nunez, along with teammate Ronald Araujo, quickly rushed towards a section of Colombian supporters in the stands. Eyewitnesses reported seeing Nunez exchanging punches with several Colombia fans before police intervened to separate the clashing groups.

Uruguay captain Jose Gimenez later explained the reasons behind the confrontation. Speaking to Directv, Gimenez revealed that the players’ families, who were seated near the Colombian supporters, were put in danger during the match.

“Please, I ask you to be careful. Families are in the stands. Our families are in danger. This is a disaster,” Gimenez stated, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures to protect players’ relatives in the future.
