Wilfred Ndidi Signs New Contract with Leicester City Until 2027

Date:

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi has committed his future to Leicester City by agreeing to a new contract that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2027.

Since his arrival from KRC Genk in the winter transfer window of 2017, Ndidi has become an integral part of Leicester’s midfield. Over his seven-year tenure with the club, the 27-year-old has been a consistent performer and a key figure in their success, contributing significantly to their three major trophy wins, including the historic FA Cup victory in 2021.

Despite his contract expiring last month, Ndidi has chosen to extend his stay with the 2016 Premier League champions, amid interest from several clubs, including Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, Everton, and Celtic. The new deal reportedly includes a release clause, reflecting Ndidi’s aspirations to eventually play for a bigger team in the future.

In his first four full seasons in the Premier League, Ndidi established himself as one of the league’s top defensive midfielders, consistently ranking in the top two for tackles and interceptions combined. His exceptional ability to disrupt opposition play and protect the backline has made him indispensable to Leicester’s tactical setup.

Ndidi’s commitment further solidifies his status as Leicester’s second longest-serving player after Jamie Vardy, having made 273 appearances, which places him 38th in the club’s all-time rankings. His experience and leadership will be crucial as Leicester aims to reestablish themselves among the Premier League’s elite.

This contract extension is a strategic win for Leicester City, ensuring stability and continuity in their midfield. Ndidi’s decision to stay demonstrates his belief in the club’s vision and ambition.
