Nigerian Actress Ayo Mogaji Reveals Abusive Marriage Experience

Date:

In a heartfelt revelation, acclaimed Nigerian actress Ayo Mogaji has spoken out about the abuse she endured in her marriage. Ayo Mogaji, known for her remarkable contributions to Nollywood, was previously in a relationship with fellow actor Jibola Dabo, with whom she shares a son.

Mogaji married Victor Ayodele Oduleye, a retired footballer and physiotherapist, in 2006. While she initially fell in love with Oduleye, their relationship soon turned sour as it became marred by abuse.

During a recent podcast appearance, Mogaji recounted the harrowing experiences she faced throughout her marriage. “We fell in love with each other but any little thing igbaju igbamu ni Keri Keri ma nba ro de ni,” she said, referring to the abusive language and physical violence she endured. She described how she would often sit outside their home, waiting for someone else to arrive to avoid being alone with Oduleye and subjected to his abuse.

Mogaji endured this torment for thirteen years before ultimately separating from her husband four years ago. Reflecting on her experience, she advised others in similar situations to leave abusive relationships. “Even in England the abusive language, the physical abuse, the mental torture—when it gets too much, I will advise anybody to get out of that marriage,” she stated.

Her candid account sheds light on the persistent issue of domestic abuse, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the signs and taking action to protect oneself.
