Julian Alvarez Requests Transfer from Manchester City after Rejecting New Contract

Date:

Julian Alvarez has reportedly asked to leave Manchester City, despite the club offering him a new four-year contract extension. The Argentinian forward, who joined the English champions in 2022, has rejected the proposed deal, which would have kept him at the Etihad Stadium until 2028.

According to reports from El Chiringuito, Julain Alvarez has not only turned down the contract extension but has also insisted that Manchester City establish a ‘logical’ asking price for any potential suitors. This development comes as a shock to the club, given Alvarez’s significant contributions on the field since his arrival.

Julian Alvarez was signed by Manchester City from River Plate after catching the eye of manager Pep Guardiola with his impressive performances in Argentina. Since joining City, Julian Alvarez has netted 36 goals over two seasons, proving to be a crucial asset for the team’s attacking lineup.

Despite his success and integration into Guardiola’s system, it appears that Alvarez is seeking new opportunities in Europe. The reasons behind his request to leave remain speculative, but the demand for a reasonable transfer fee suggests that Alvarez and his representatives are keen on facilitating a move that aligns with his career aspirations and market value.

This situation places Manchester City in a challenging position. While they would ideally retain a player of Alvarez’s caliber, they must now navigate the complexities of setting an appropriate asking price that reflects his contributions and potential while ensuring they can reinvest wisely in the squad.
