American rapper Big Sean recently shed light on why he hasn’t taken the plunge and married singer Jhené Aiko, despite their eight-year-long relationship. In a candid conversation on the ‘Out of Context’ podcast last Friday, Sean delved into the complexities of their relationship with host Charlamagne tha God.
Sean, known for his introspective lyrics and laid-back demeanor, revealed that he’s not quite ready to walk down the aisle. “It’s a little personal, you know what I mean?” he began, his voice reflecting the weight of his thoughts. “But just like any person who has dealt with love, we’ve had our ups and downs… And I think it’s still about finding the right navigation through it all. To me, marriage symbolizes, like, the best relationship. I would like to, and I don’t like putting our personal business out there like that either, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.”
Sean and Aiko’s relationship has been a rollercoaster since it began in 2016. Their initial connection was shrouded in controversy as Aiko was married to producer Dot da Genius when their romance sparked. Aiko filed for divorce in August 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.
Despite their tumultuous journey, the couple has shared significant milestones. In November 2022, they welcomed their son, Noah, into the world, further intertwining their lives. Aiko is also the mother of 15-year-old daughter Namiko, from her previous relationship with singer O’Ryan.
The rapper’s hesitance towards marriage might stem from his past experiences. Sean was previously engaged to actress Naya Rivera in October 2013, but the couple called off their engagement six months later. Rivera tragically passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy that Sean respectfully honors.
Big Sean’s revelations on the podcast provide a glimpse into the depth and dynamics of his relationship with Aiko. While fans eagerly await wedding bells, it’s clear that the couple is navigating their path with care, ensuring they build a solid foundation for their future together.
