Fabrizio Romano Reveals Liverpool’s Next Big Move: Giorgi Mamardashvili Deal in the Works After Zubimendi Setback

Date:

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the club is edging closer to securing the services of Valencia’s highly-rated goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili. This comes after a significant setback in their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who ultimately chose to remain with his boyhood club despite advanced negotiations.

Romano, renowned for his accuracy in transfer reporting, initially broke the news that Liverpool were interested in the Georgian shot-stopper, valuing him at around €30 million. The move is now reportedly in the “deal on” stage, with personal terms already agreed upon between Mamardashvili and Liverpool. The 22-year-old is eager to join the Merseyside giants, even if it means spending the first one or two seasons out on loan.

Bournemouth has emerged as a potential destination for Mamardashvili during this interim period. The Cherries are open to signing him, paving the way for him to eventually succeed Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s number one.

Negotiations are progressing, with Mamardashvili’s agents currently in Valencia to finalize terms with the Spanish club. However, there is no formal agreement between the clubs yet. Romano’s update was corroborated by Nacho Sanchis of Relevo, who reported that Liverpool have tabled a £35 million offer for the goalkeeper. The decision now rests with Valencia’s owner, Peter Lim.

Mamardashvili, who became Valencia’s first-choice goalkeeper after signing permanently in 2021, has only missed one La Liga match in the past two seasons. His performances have also caught the eye on the international stage, particularly during Georgia’s impressive run in the Euros this summer.

Liverpool’s interest in Mamardashvili underscores the club’s forward-thinking approach to squad building, ensuring they have a ready-made successor for Alisson while securing the future of their goalkeeping department. As negotiations continue, the football world watches closely to see if the Reds can pull off another coup in the transfer market.
