Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) has confirmed an attempt to compromise its website domain, which occurred on Wednesday, just a day after the bank renewed its domain name. The incident caused a temporary disruption to the website, leaving customers unable to access online services for a short period.
In an official statement released on Thursday, signed by the bank’s management, GTBank clarified that the hacking attempt was unsuccessful and that the website was not cloned. The statement, titled “Alleged Web Domain Hack: GTBank Provides Clarity,” addressed concerns and reassured customers that their data remains secure.
The bank stated, “Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media alleging that hackers have seized the bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customer data. While there was an isolated incident of an attempt to compromise our website domain, we would like to assure all our customers and stakeholders that the bank’s website has not been cloned. We do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.”
GTBank emphasized that a dedicated team of Information Security Experts is working around the clock to restore the domain settings and ensure that the website is fully operational as soon as possible.
“We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data. Thank you for your continued support,” the statement concluded.
Customers are encouraged to stay informed through the bank’s official communication channels as GTBank continues to prioritize the security and trust of its customers.
