EFCC On X Account: Technical Glitch, Not Hack

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially addressed rumors surrounding the alleged hacking of its social media account. For several days, the anti-graft agency’s account on X (formerly known as Twitter) has been inaccessible, prompting speculation about a possible security breach.

In a statement released by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, the agency clarified the situation, dismissing the hacking claims as false and misleading. Oyewale explained that the account’s downtime is due to technical issues stemming from recent upgrades, not a cyberattack.

“Our attention has been drawn to unsubstantiated claims in some sections of the media suggesting that the official X account of the Commission has been hacked and hijacked by unknown individuals. The Commission wishes to categorically state that these claims are false and misleading,” the statement read.

The EFCC further elaborated that a technical glitch occurred while updating the Commission’s biography on the platform. This issue was immediately reported to the X Support Team, and efforts to restore the account are currently in the final stages.

The Commission assured the public that its official X account would be fully functional soon and expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of its stakeholders during this period. Meanwhile, all other verified channels of communication remain operational for regular news and updates.
