Celebrating the SoundGod: Happy Birthday, Runtown

Date:

Today, we celebrate the multi-talented Nigerian artist Douglas Jack Agu, better known by his stage name Runtown, as he marks another year of life. Born on August 19, 1989, in Enugu State, Nigeria, Runtown has become a significant figure in the music industry, known for his distinctive sound and creative flair.

Runtown’s journey began in the bustling cities of Abuja and Lagos, where he spent his formative years before his family relocated to Enugu when he was 12. It was in these diverse environments that Runtown developed his love for music, an affection that would eventually shape his future.

Music Career

Runtown’s music career officially kicked off in 2007 when he began performing in church choirs and participating in local talent shows. His debut single, aptly titled “Runtown,” dropped the same year, setting the stage for what would be a remarkable career. However, it was his 2010 single “Forever” that truly put him on the map, garnering attention and establishing him as a rising star in the Nigerian music scene.

The year 2014 was a game-changer for Runtown. He released the smash hit “Gallardo,” a track that catapulted him into the limelight and secured him a deal with Eric Many Entertainment. His debut album, *Ghetto University*, followed in 2015, featuring hit singles like “Bend Down Pause” and “Lagos to Kampala.” The album was a commercial success, further solidifying Runtown’s place among Nigeria’s music elite.

In 2018, Runtown parted ways with Eric Many Entertainment to establish his own record label, Soundgod Music Group. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career, allowing him to take full creative control. Since then, Runtown has continued to make waves with hit singles and EPs such as “Unleash,” “International Badman Killa,” and *Tradition*.

Personal Life

Beyond his music, Runtown is a father to his son Zamar, born in 2017. His personal life has not been without its challenges, including a well-publicized dispute with his former record label. Despite these hurdles, Runtown remains focused on his craft, consistently delivering music that resonates with fans worldwide.

#### Awards and Recognition
Runtown’s contributions to the music industry have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous nominations from prestigious award bodies, including the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, City People Entertainment Awards, and the SoundCity MVP Awards, highlighting his influence and impact.

As Runtown celebrates his birthday today, we honor not just his contributions to music but also his resilience, creativity, and the unique sound that has earned him the title of SoundGod. Happy Birthday, Runtown! Here’s to more hits, more success, and more moments that define the sound of a generation.
