Police Probe Student’s Death After Fake Girlfriend Gig

A 21-year-old student, Mojisola Awesu, from the Kwara State College of Health Technology, was found dead at a refuse dump in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. She had been hired by her friend to pretend to be the girlfriend of a private university student at a party for N15,000. The Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that a resident reported finding the body on August 12, 2024, and police operatives identified it as Awesu. A missing person report was filed by Awesu’s roommate, Blessing, who said Awesu had left for a party organized by students of two private universities. According to the report, Awesu was invited by a student, Adebayo Happiness, to act as his girlfriend for N15,000, but she felt uncomfortable and couldn’t be reached after arriving at the hotel. The police have arrested suspects and are investigating the incident, which has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
