The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly expressed its willingness to support former President Goodluck Jonathan should he decide to seek the presidency again in 2027. Highlighting Jonathan as the leader Nigeria needs, the PDP underscores its confidence in his ability to address the nation’s current challenges.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary said that Jonathan continues to enjoy widespread support and empathy from Nigerians amid the country’s ongoing struggles.
“With the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) grappling with the nation’s issues, Goodluck Jonathan’s return would be a welcome development. The party stands ready to support him because he is one of us, and we believe he can get the job done,” Abdullahi stated.
Abdullahi commended Jonathan’s previous administration for maintaining single-digit inflation, stabilizing the Naira, and regulating the economy effectively. He contrasted these achievements with the current administration’s removal of subsidies, which has contributed to rising inflation rates.
Addressing security concerns, Abdullahi criticized the APC-led government for escalating challenges such as farmer-herder clashes and widespread banditry. He cited a recent incident involving the kidnapping and murder of a prominent traditional ruler in Sokoto State as evidence of the administration’s disconnect with ground realities.
The PDP’s endorsement aligns with growing public dissatisfaction with the incumbent government, drawing favorable comparisons to Jonathan’s tenure. Supporting this sentiment, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed has pledged to abandon his presidential ambitions if Jonathan chooses to run.
As Nigeria faces significant economic and security hurdles, the PDP’s support for Goodluck Jonathan reflects the party’s belief in his leadership to navigate the nation towards stability and prosperity.
