The Nigerian Police Force has declared Andrew Martin Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, a British national, wanted for allegedly plotting to destabilize Nigeria and overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. According to the police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Povey rented a space at Labour House in Abuja for his Iva Valley Bookshop and established Stars of Nations Schools in Nasarawa State as a cover for his subversive activities.
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into Povey’s activities and have identified him as a foreign mercenary who built a network of sleeper cells to topple the government and plunge the nation into chaos. He allegedly issued directives, monitored progress, and provided finance and operational guidance to achieve unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria.
Povey is accused of mobilizing and deploying several billions of naira to his Nigerian collaborators, urging them to mobilize the public to violently storm police facilities and military barracks, anticipating a bloodbath that would instigate international condemnation of the Nigerian government. These acts are in clear violation of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant laws.
The police have declared Povey and one of his local coordinators, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, wanted, and a global hunt for them has commenced in connection with this investigation. Charges have also been filed against 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters, including Povey, for conspiring to destabilize Nigeria by committing felony to wit: treason.
Povey has denied receiving any official invitation from the Nigeria Police Force amid allegations connecting him to terrorism financing. He has expressed shock over claims associating him with terrorism and the war in Sudan, stating that he travelled out of Nigeria on August 4 for a holiday and was surprised by the raid on his bookshop by security forces.
