A brewing storm within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified, as former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, faces pushback from party members over his threats to “put fire in their states.” Wike’s comments, made during the party’s state congress in Port Harcourt, were met with resistance from PDP leaders, who assert that he cannot dismantle the party.
PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi dismissed Wike’s threats, stating that the party has survived worse challenges in its 25-year history. The Osun State chapter of the PDP described Wike’s statement as “reckless and irresponsible,” urging him to focus on his duties as a minister rather than threatening fellow party members.
As the crisis deepens, Rivers State Commissioner for Environment Sydney Gbara called for security agencies to invite Wike for questioning, citing concerns that his comments could incite crisis in the country. With attempts at mediation failing, the party remains divided, and the dispute over party control continues to simmer.
