In preparation for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Interim Super Eagles manager Augustine Eguavoen has appointed Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede to join his coaching team. This announcement was made by Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Monday.
Fidelis Ilechukwu, who recently led Enugu Rangers to victory in Nigeria’s top-flight division, and Daniel Ogunmodede, who steered Remo Stars to a commendable second-place finish, will support Eguavoen in the crucial matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda. Their expertise is expected to bring a tactical edge to the Super Eagles as they aim to secure their spot in the continental showpiece.
Joining the coaching team are Tomaz Zorec, a fitness trainer from Slovenia, goalkeeper coach Olatunji Baruwa, and match analyst Eboboritse Uwejamomere. The Super Eagles squad, along with the coaching and support staff, is scheduled to arrive in Uyo on Monday to commence preparations. They will face the Cheetahs of Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 5 p.m.
Following the Benin clash, the team will travel to Kigali on Sunday for their Matchday 2 encounter against the Bees of Rwanda, which is slated for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Amahoro Stadium. The Super Eagles are poised to make a strong start in their AFCON qualification campaign.
