On Monday, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, inaugurated four newly constructed and reconstructed roads in the Abakpa Nike area of Enugu metropolis. Among the roads was Mike Ejeagha Crescent, named after the legendary musician, who resides there, and the popular Obinagu Road, which has also been renamed in his honour.
The newly inaugurated roads include Texaco Bus Stop-Ifo Road and Nkpor Street. In addition to inaugurating the roads, Governor Mbah visited Ejeagha at his residence and pledged that the state government would henceforth take full responsibility for the artist’s upkeep, recognising him as a “living legend.”
During his address, Governor Mbah expressed his commitment to fulfilling the social contract with the people of Enugu. He highlighted the high-quality construction of the Obinagu Road and Mike Ejeagha Crescent, which feature robust sub-grade and drainage systems.
Expressing his gratitude, Ejeagha, through his children, stated that Governor Mbah’s actions had honoured him beyond his lifetime, contrasting the governor’s commitment with unfulfilled promises from previous administrations.
The newly constructed roads have been met with enthusiasm by local residents, who praised the governor for the impact these infrastructure improvements will have on their businesses and daily lives. The event culminated with Governor Mbah joining residents in a traditional “Gwo gwo gwo ngwo” dance, celebrating the community’s progress and shared future.
