Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have criticized Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his recent threat to disrupt their states for supporting Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. This confrontation is the latest development in the ongoing power struggle between Wike and his former protégé, Fubara.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, in a statement released by its Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, dismissed Wike’s threats as baseless. The governors reaffirmed their support for Fubara’s leadership in the Rivers State PDP, emphasizing that Wike’s actions are counterproductive and undermine efforts to foster unity within the party.
The statement, issued on behalf of the forum’s chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, condemned Wike’s remarks as “irresponsible” and warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace and cohesion within PDP-controlled states. The governors highlighted that Wike, during his tenure as Rivers State Governor, enjoyed the same privileges he now seeks to deny Fubara.
Hassan Hyat, Chairman of the Kaduna State PDP, also cautioned Wike against actions that could weaken the party. Hyat urged Wike to remember the solidarity he once received as governor and to support, rather than alienate, his fellow PDP governors.
The PDP governors reiterated their commitment to dialogue and reconciliation within the party, stressing the importance of maintaining unity and mutual respect among its members.
