The Nigerian Presidency has strongly criticized Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for his recent claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed labor leaders by increasing the petrol pump price.
Ajaero had alleged that the NLC accepted the new national minimum wage of N70,000 under the assurance that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) would remain unchanged.
In response to these allegations, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, took to his verified X handle, @Abdulfagge, to refute Ajaero’s claims. Abdulaziz, who was present at the meetings between President Tinubu and the labor leaders, emphasized that no such agreement was made.
“I sat through the two meetings President @officialABAT had with labor leaders on the minimum wage,” Abdulaziz stated. “At neither of the meetings was an offer made in exchange for the fuel price hike. Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”
Abdulaziz’s rebuttal highlights the tension between the government and labor unions, with the Presidency framing Ajaero’s comments as an attempt to manipulate public sentiment for political gain.
