The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced plans to start lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Dangote Refinery on September 15, the country continues to grapple with fuel scarcity despite recent price hikes. Adedapo Segun, Executive Vice President of Downstream at NNPC, revealed this timeline on TVC News’ “Journalists’ Hangout” show, stating that the company is awaiting the refinery’s readiness to supply 650,000 barrels per day.
Segun emphasized NNPC’s efforts to collaborate with marketers to ensure extended operating hours at fuel stations, prevent product diversions, and guarantee timely deliveries to meet the nation’s fuel demands. He assured Nigerians that the scarcity would ease soon as more stations adjust their operations and begin selling fuel.
The announcement comes after Dangote Refinery denied claims of NNPC lifting its petrol, following Aliko Dangote’s declaration that his refinery had commenced production. The NNPC’s plan to lift fuel from Dangote Refinery is expected to alleviate the ongoing fuel scarcity, but Nigerians remain skeptical about the effectiveness of these measures in resolving the persistent fuel supply issues.
