Shallipopi on Fair Pricing for Music Performances: A Matter of Music Reach

Date:

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, recently addressed the topic of performance fees in the music industry. In an interview with News Central TV, Shallipopi shared his perspective on how artists should determine their charges for shows and concerts.

Shallipopi tackled the common criticism that Nigerian artists often demand exorbitant fees. He argued that performance charges should reflect the success and reach of an artist’s music. According to him, the value of a performance is inherently tied to how far and wide an artist’s music has traveled.

The singer emphasized that if an artist’s music achieves streaming numbers comparable to those of international stars, such as American artists, their fees should align with those standards. Conversely, he advised against charging excessively if the artist’s reach and success do not match that of global counterparts.

Shallipopi stated, “It depends on your music and where it has gotten; that is what your price is going to be. If your music has achieved the same streams as an American artist, you should charge similarly. If not, overcharging is not justifiable.”
