One Year After Mohbad’s Death, Nigerians Continue to Demand Justice

One year has passed since the tragic death of Nigerian street hip-hop artist, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The artist passed away on September 12, 2023, in Lagos, under mysterious and controversial circumstances, leaving fans and the public in shock.

Following his death, Nigeria witnessed waves of protests, with people calling for justice. Most recently, on August 11, 2024, a peaceful protest was organized by actor Yomi Fabiyi in front of the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu. The protest, tagged “Justice for Mohbad,” reflects the continued demand for accountability. Although Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy shortly after his death, the Nigerian Police are yet to release the results.

During the demonstration, Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Aloba, urged the public to cease further protests, stating, “Whatever Mohbad’s father says is final… The best you can do is to pray for him.” She also appealed for his body to be released to the family to allow for closure.On the anniversary of his death, Nigerians have once again taken to social media, amplifying their demands for justice for the late artist.
